Church Legacy

Church Legacy

Dear friends

Rev RachelFor 150 years St Matthew and St James church has blessed and served Mossley Hill. We bring here our joys and sorrows, our hopes and fears. Our church speaks of God’s love and helps us find and live out our faith.

Mossley Hill Church is still here today because of the love and generosity of people, past and present. A gift in your will, large or small, helps ensure our ongoing life, ministry and mission, both today and into an exciting future.

So, can I thank you for thinking of leaving a gift in your will to your church? Your gift, large or small, makes a difference: caring for our beautiful building, supporting our activities and making
new things possible. That is your gift and a wonderful, lasting legacy.

It is my privilege to serve Mossley Hill Church as your Rector. Thank you for considering this important matter.

Rev Rachel

Your Will Matters

A valid and up to date Will gives each of us peace of mind, ensuring that our wishes are carried out after death.

Your Will helps you prepare spiritually and practically; it provides for those you love; it protects from legal worries at a time of grief.

In short, your Will matters because your life and your loved ones matter.

For nearly 500 years the Church of England has encouraged people to make a Will. A Will helps us set our affairs in order and steward wisely the gifts God has entrusted to us.

Making a Will is simple, inexpensive and important. Everyone, old or young, should have a valid, up to date Will. We recommend taking professional, independent advice.

Once you have made provision in your Will for your loved ones, please consider a gift in your Will to your church.

Your Lasting Gift

A gift in your Will makes a lasting difference to the life of Mossley Hill Church. Your gift could help with:

  • Enabling our youth worker to accompany year 6 pupils as they transition to high school.
  • Providing weekly activities for isolated and lonely members of our community.
  • Supporting new parents through our weekly CAMEO ‘come and meet each other’ sessions.
  • Developing memorial area into an accessible community space and garden.
  • Employing a Student Chaplain to minister to the 1300 1st years living away from home in Greenbank halls of residence.

Legacies are special gifts so we want to honour the giver and, wherever possible, discuss appropriate use with your Executors.

Because our needs change over time we encourage gifts to be left for the general purposes of the church.

Making a Will, leaving a gift

Making a Will is usually simple and inexpensive. Your solicitor can give you independent expert advice about writing a new Will or amending an existing Will. It will help if you take time to prepare for your visit to your solicitor.

Your solicitor can also advise you on the different types of gifts you can leave in a Will. You can give a fixed amount of money, known as a pecuniary gift, which can be index-linked to inflation.

Dividing your estate into shares or percentages, known as a residuary gift, can ensure that your Will continues to reflect your wishes and is in tune with the church’s teaching on proportionate giving. Moreover, a gift in your Will is tax-free and may reduce the overall tax payable by your estate.

3 Simple Steps
