Rose Lane L18 8DB
We are opening our magnificent Victorian gothic style church for visitors on Saturday 15th September.
This is a great opportunity to see how the church has changed following our recent re ordering and to find out more about our history and heritage.
St Matthew and St James Parish Church Mossley Hill was built in 1875. It is a designated Grade 11* listed building. It was the first church in the UK to be bombed in WW2. it has recently undergone a significant reordering during which ensuring the heritage of the church going forward has been a great part. The Open Day will feature guided tours of the building from the Rector lasting 45 minutes each followed by a short 5 minute organ recital from the organist on the Father Willis organ. At 3.45pm there will be a 15 minute organ recital to close the day. We have a detailed Visitor guide and an activity sheet for children to aid your visit and there will be many members of the congregation on hand to answer any queries. There will be an exhibition of the WW2 damage sustained by the church and a specially commissioned film to highlight the church history. Our Coffee bar will be open all day for coffee, cake, light lunches and afternoon tea. We would love to see you!
